Parking Ticket Frenzy

11 March 2009 by: Frederick Carle One Comment

I need readers comments on this one. For the past two years I’ve parked on the side of the street in 1 hour and 3 hours parking spots. I did this to avoid paying a parking fee of close to $800 for an 8 months period. If I take in consideration all the parking tickets I got during this two years period, I believe it would have been a lot less complicated and expensive to buy the darn parking fee and get a front row parking. I said a lot less complicated because every time I had to park I had to look for a parking spot and it sometimes took close to 25 minutes to do so. The worst part in all this was the fact that it took another 15 minutes of walk to reach my destination.

What I truly wanted your comments for is this…THE CITY BYLAWS…ans more precisely Ottawa Canada city bylaws

Did you know that even if there is no “parking time” sign saying you have a maximum parking time of 1 or 2 or 3 hours, there is still a time limit of 3 hours and believe me there is a huge crew of city workers that do just that…give tickets to people in those “suppose to be” 3 hour parking spots.

That means if you come from northern Asia for a vacation to Ottawa Canada, you are suppose to know that you can’t park more than 3 hours on the street even if there are no signs saying so.

So let me know if I’m wrong but this is the worst case of robbery I can think of. “Let take money from people for a reason they don’t even know”.

Hey I am an American, but many US cities including smallish ones do the same BS as Ottawa. If there is no info on the street sign, is there clear info on the meter itself that you only have so many hours? In some cases here a window sticker can be purchased by the month…I'm with you, tho' that it seems abusive, especially to visitors and foriegners.
